Our 16u team is the feeder team for our Bullett Proof Prospects Showcase team. Their training is an up tempo combination of strength and agility drills as well as learning the onfield game at a top level pace. The premise behind their training is to prepare them for that final stage of their minor baseball career, the 18u team where they will have a chance to perform in front of college and pro scouts. The 16u team plays in two different leagues, a wood bat league in May and early June here in Ontario and they will then transfer to metal bats and play in the Western New York Boys of Summer league. The 16u team also plays in tournaments here in Ontario as well as the U.S. This year they will be going to Nashville, Tennessee for the Sandlott Wood Bat 16u World Series. Thier next tournament is the Bullett Proof Prospects Tournament here in Welland, Ontario. This tournament is part of the the City of Welland's 150th Anniversary event calendar. In late July the 16u team will also be going to Adrian College and Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan where they will get their first 'taste' of playing on the college field. NEWS
After the first weekend was washed away with rain, the 16 and under Bullettproof baseball squad was ready to take the field. Saturday started off the season with a doubleheader against the Burlington Blue Jays. Tim Hudson started the first game and took a loss going 4 innings and giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits and collecting 3 strikeouts. In to replace him was Scott MacDonald, who threw the final 3 innings allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit. The team lost 8-2 with defense and timely hitting coming up short. Game 2 saw Jacob Sheehan take the mound and with sharper defense and a bit more offense led by Mark Doucette and Edwin Corona. Sheehan struck out 7 in 3 and 2/3 innings, but also gave up 7 hits and was tagged with a loss allowing 7 earned runs. Sunday brought the York County Cardinals 17 and under team to town for the first Boys of Summer League games. AJ Clark was on the mound and after a 1-2-3 first inning, the wheels came off the bus, as the defense behind Clark made 8 errors in the 2nd inning, accounting for 17 unearned runs. Lukas Burch came in for relief and threw 4 solid innings. The boys were only able to muster 1 hit, a sharp double by Corona, as they fell 22-2. Game 2 was a much better effort as they fell 5-2. Doucette took the hill and threw 6 solid innings, allowing 3 earned runs in taking the complete game loss. Again the offense was overmatched, but got 2 hits by Wes Wiggins and Clark.
